Pride and accomplishment swept through the Edith Cowan University (ECU) graduation ceremony in Perth on February 9, 2025, as Filipino students from the Arellano University - International Nursing Program (AU-INP) celebrated their hard-earned Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degrees.
The graduates, Adrienne Chua, Nicole Fegcan, Eunice Mendoza, Diane Rayman, Rea Segui, and Dianna Villanueva had completed their first two or three years of study in the Philippines under the AU-INP and ECU partnership. They successfully navigated the complexities of international education, from transferring to ECU in February 2023, adapting to new learning environments and clinical practices abroad, to completing their two-year academic journey.
Dr. Emerita C. Mendoza, the Director of the Arellano University, International Program, attended the event. The graduates were also surrounded by proud family members, friends, and mentors. They reflected on their achievements and the exciting opportunities that lie ahead. Diane, one of the graduates shared, "I chose to work in aged care because I deeply admire how Australia values its elderly population." She is also considering advancing her career by pursuing a role in nursing education to mentor future nurses or becoming a nurse practitioner to take on an advanced clinical role. When asked about advice for aspiring AU-INP students, Adrienne, one of the graduates said, "To every future nurse reading this – embrace the journey ahead with passion, resilience, and an open heart. Nursing is more than a career; it’s a calling, a privilege, and a lifelong adventure."
The graduation of these students highlights the success of the articulation agreement between Arellano University and Edith Cowan University. This international collaboration has provided nursing students with a pathway to obtain an internationally recognized BSN degree and expand their career opportunities worldwide.
