Tuesday, 7th of May 2024, the Chiefs and Lady Chiefs battled against the JRU Heavy Bombers and Lady Bombers respectively for a ticket to the Final Four. The Lady Chiefs needed to win the match in three sets while the Chiefs could not afford to lose the game. Both of the AU Volleyball teams were hungry for the win and were determined to claim the final four spot.
The Lady Chiefs were determined to claim the final four seat, as they did not make it to the final four in the last season (NCAA Season 98). They showed their determination through taking the game in straight sets, with the scores 25-16 in each set. The Lady Chiefs showed strong defense led by rookies Fhaye Mangubat and Khey Pablo. Their offense was orchestrated by veteran setter Donna Paralejas, while spikers Pau De Guzman, Laika Tudlasan, and Harem Ceballos paved the way for the Lady Chiefs’ aggressive offense. The game was sealed by none other than team captain Dodee Batindaan, sending the Lady Chiefs into the Final four.
On the other hand, the AU Chiefs were determined to return to the final four, as they had finished 3rd in the previous season. The Chiefs were fired up to claim a back to back appearance in the final four. Despite their rocky start in the first set, the Chiefs kept their eyes on claiming the remaining 3 sets. Their offense was orchestrated by national team member and AU team captain Adi Villados, while spikers AC Guinto, Carl Berdal, and Jiwen Sinuto racked up the points. On the other hand, their tight defense was commanded by rookie blocker Daniel Agovida and veterans Melchor Bustillo, Josh Datu, and Carl Berdal. The Chiefs took the win in 4 sets with the scores, 20-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-15 and returned to the Final Four.
On the other hand, in the juniors division, both the boys and girls have reached the finals, ranking at the number one spot. The Boys and Girls teams competed in a best of three series against MU and UPHSD respectively. However, both teams fell short and concluded their campaign as the first runner up.
