Arellano University completed a best-of-three series sweep when it made quick work of San Beda University, 25-13, 29-27, 25-15, Monday at the Filoil Flying V Center.
Finals Most Valuable Player Regine Arocha led the Lady Chiefs to defend their title, their third title in four years.
Arguably the best opposite hitter in the league, Arocha delivered when it mattered the most for the champions.
She unleashed a couple of crosscourt attacks to steal the second set from San Beda, a newbie squad in the Finals.
After that, the Lady Chiefs never looked back.
They outscored the Lady Red Spikers in the deciding set, 8-0. Graduating skipper Mary Anne Esguerra applied the finishing touch after San Beda saved five match points.
Arocha and Jovie Prado finished the night with 15 points apiece for the Lady Chiefs, who survived the Lady Red Spikers in five sets in the series opener.
“Sa practice namin kahapon, kahit sa huddle namin kanina, sinabi namin na sa araw na ito, dapat tapusin na natin (ang serye),” said Obet Javier, a three-time Coach of the Year of the league. “Sinagot ako ng mga player ko sa pamamagitan ng ganoong klaseng laro,” he added.
Last season’s rookie of the year Cesca Racraquin was the lone Lady Red Spiker to deliver double digit offensive output with 13 points.
