On August 19, 2025, the AB Psychology students of Arellano University Juan Sumulong Campus gathered for a momentous event: the General Assembly and Pinning Ceremony, themed “ALAB 2025: Taking the First Steps with a Burning Passion.” This occasion not only marked the culmination of years of academic rigor but also symbolized the students' official entry into the field of psychology. Held at the AU Little Theater, the ceremony was filled with meaningful rituals, inspiring speeches, and heartfelt moments of gratitude.
The event was spearheaded by the AB Psychology Society, with active participation from its student leaders, faculty members, and dean. The ceremony began with an emotional display of support as the 4th-year AB Psychology students—also known as the pinnees—entered the theater, accompanied by their parents and guardians. The presence of family members underscored the significance of the occasion, as it recognized not just the academic achievements of the students but also the sacrifices and unwavering support provided by their loved ones.
The opening remarks, delivered by Dr. Sammy Q. Dolba, the Dean of the College of General Education and Liberal Arts, set the tone for the ceremony. It was followed by an inspiring address from Ms. Alliah Cristelle M. Lavilla, the President of the AB Psychology Society, who proudly welcomed everyone to the event and spoke passionately, explaining what the AB Psychology Society is and how it can lend a hand and offer support to fellow AB Psychology students.
One of the most anticipated moments was the speech delivered by the distinguished guest speaker, Ms. Amelia D. Pagdanganan, also known as Lolakwentosera—an author and the school president of STI College - Muñoz EDSA. Ms. Pagdanganan captivated the audience with her words of encouragement and wisdom, emphasizing the meaning and importance of PASSION, IDENTITY, AND NATURAL LAW (PIN) in shaping future leaders in the field of psychology.
The heart of the event was the Pinning Ceremony, where the students were formally recognized for their academic achievements and their readiness to transition into the professional world. This moment was led by Dr. Sammy Q. Dolba, Dean of the College of General Education and Liberal Arts, Dr. Hazel S. Martinez, Head of the Psychology Department, Ms. Amelia D. Pagdanganan, also known as Lolakwentosera and Ms. Joan M. San Juan, RPm, RPsy, one of the professors/faculty in ab psychology department
Following the pinning ceremony, the students participated in the oath-taking, led by Marvin Eleazar, a 3rd-year representative for the Academic Year 2024-2025. This moment was especially significant, as it symbolized the students' commitment to their future roles as practitioners of psychology.
The candle lighting ceremony followed the oath-taking, where each student lit a candle, representing the "burning passion" they carry with them in their pursuit of knowledge and service to others. The candle, often associated with enlightenment, served as a visual representation of the students’ commitment to illuminate the minds of others as they embark on their careers.
In one of the most touching moments of the ceremony, the students were given the opportunity to express their gratitude toward their parents and guardians. Each student handed their parents a flower, a symbolic gesture representing their appreciation for all the hard work, sacrifices, and love that had allowed them to reach this academic milestone. At the end of ceremony, the AB psychology faculty and guests leave an inspirational message to all pinnees.
